Leaving Los Vegas…Actually Tel Aviv
Five and a half years ago I made aliyah. There was no question where I would live- it was obvious to me that I was going straight to Tel Aviv.
The city has treated me well. It showed me how fun and practical riding a bike can be (even 9 months pregnant). It let me experience great restaurants and cool bars and always had a supermarket around the corner. The city is fun and the people are great…if only I could say the same about renting an apartment then I think I might never have left.
But alas, like all great things, my stint in Tel Aviv must come to an end. I am a firm believer that change is good. It is of course scary, but in the end proves to have a positive outcome. And of course, nothing is forever.
So this city girl has traded in her 70 meter, 3rd floor walk up apartment in Tel Aviv for a brand new duplex house that is twice the size in the country, away from the hustle and bustle, the pollution and the dog droppings on the sidewalk.
It will take time to get used to driving to the supermarket, having to make plans more than 20 minutes in advance and cooking on a regular basis. It will take considerably less time adapting to the spacious rooms, inviting people over for dinner parties and paying less for groceries. Did I mention that we have a guest room as well?
Tel Aviv will always hold a special place in my heart. I think it is an amazing city to live in- it is also fun to visit. Now the only question left is: What will I do about the title of this blog?
