First Cell Phone

My daughter Edden is 1 year old now. She can stand, she can wave goodbye and… she can talk on the cell phone.

I always knew that children mimic their parents and take in their surroundings, but I never thought that on a list of the first 10 things Edden learns how to do, knowing what a cell phone is would be one of them.

It started when I put her in gan (nursery school) last week. There is a box of toy cell phones and other electronics that she gravitated towards immediately. At first she put everything in her mouth, but then she put these items to her ear and made a noise (as if to say hello). The next day when she was at home she found a coaster on the coffee table and put it to her ear in the same fashion. My mother had no idea what she was doing. "Why is Edden putting all of these random things to her ear? What is she trying to hear?" Then I explained about the cell phone.

The other day I was at the park with her and I noticed numerous people walking by, talking on their cell phones. A machine rings, a person looks at it, presses a button and puts it to their ear…exactly what she does.

The first cell phones did come from Israel, but a 1 year old talking on them now? I can only imagine what will come next.
