A Day in the Life of a Tel Aviv Woman

As fun as mass emails can be, I decided to start this blog with the hopes of writing on a more regular basis. I welcome your comments so feel free to write often.

Look Who's Talking

Of all of the things that I imagined I might do in my life, doing a voiceover was never one of them. I always admired people like James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman who have such soothing and well-rounded voices and I enjoy every movie with their narration. I was never thrilled about my own voice, but when a friend asked if I was available one random Wednesday afternoon to help out a non-profit by dubbing over their promotional video, I was more than happy to help.

The Alon organization was established in 1998 by a group of young adults to help people in underprivileged societies in Israel. The project that I helped with was to start a music center for youth in Lod, a blue-collar city just 10 minute outside of Tel Aviv. Listen to the video and see if you can recognize my voice.

Sitting in a studio, hearing my own voice reverberating through the headphones was strange at first, but after a few minutes I got used to it. I never thought about how I enunciate words or put feeling in my voice; it is certainly much harder than I thought. The hour wasn't easy, but it was interesting and rewarding. I am not holding my breath to be called back for an audition, but the experience was well worth it.

I will just have to add this to my list of TV commercials and other random things I have done that I put under the category "only in Israel."

Nice voiceover. :) Tell them that Israel is not spelled "Isreal" though.
