A Reason for a Party- סיבה למסיבה
There is a saying in Hebrew: siba lemesiba, which literally means “reason for a party.” It is how you explain why you are having a party when it is not for one of the obvious reasons. Last week, my friend Lerone and I used our one year anniversary in Israel for this very reason and we threw ourselves a party. Instead of holding a house party with the mandatory set up, clean up and optional party hats, we decided to invite everyone to a club in Tel Aviv. This was a great idea: no housework on our part, built in music, optional alcohol and lots of other random people to make it feel festive.
Here is an interesting tidbit to know about Israeli timing. When someone tells you that a club opens at 9 pm, what they really mean is that the DJ is just arriving, the bartenders are stocking the bar and the doors are still locked. By 10 pm the doors were open and people were starting to trickle in. At midnight the place was full and by 2 am, when we left, there was no place to move and a line at the door. Tel Aviv certainly earned her title as the city that never sleeps. But our evening did not end there. For those who were still standing, we went across the street for sushi and by 3 am I was tucked into bed and dreaming of spicy tuna rolls.
Thanks to Lerone I even had proof that this shin-dig took place. Friends came from far and wide and everyone seemed to have a great time. Of course the situation in Israel was high on the list of conversation topics, but people also needed a release from it all, even if it is only for a few hours. I wonder what next year will bring?

I'm still trying to see straight through the alcohol fumes... :-)
I think that we should have another party next week, celebrating your "one-year-two-weeks-anniversary".... ;-)
