Thai Sun
After landing in Thailand and spending 12 hours in Bangkok, Leora and I decided to head to the Island of Koh Chang for a little R & R. I started thinking the other day about what to write on the blog regarding my first few days in this new country. Should I write about the beach, riding motor bikes, riding and swimming with elephants or scuba diving? Leora helped me and said that I shouldn't write that way, it will just sound like "first I did this" and "then I did that," which really isn't that interesting for other people reading the blog. (Actually that is exactly what I just did, except I didn't write "had a lot of fun," "met great people" and "drank a lot of beer." All of course true...)
Leora's advice to me was to choose one thing, a small experience or difference and write about that. The issue I decided to tackle is much more dangerous than the famous Mike Tyson, it is no other than the infamous Thai sun.
I put on sun screen, I even sat in the shade when not in the water, but yet it got me... Every other tourist that saw my red skin had a similar response: "I got that too the first day that I was here. Expect 4 days of pain and after that your skin will peel." Fortunately and also due to an industrial amount of aloe it wasn't nearly as bad as that. I just spent a few days in the shade.
This story does have a small moral to it: when in a new climate it is better to be a tad more careful.
