As fun as mass emails can be, I decided to start this blog with the hopes of writing on a more regular basis. I welcome your comments so feel free to write often.

Animals Running For Office

There is less than a week until elections and ads are plastered everywhere. Banners are hung up every morning by major intersections, it is the most talked about topic in the media (except for the bird flu influenza) and there is even an entire television station that is dedicated to running propaganda ads.

Of course each party has a one-liner (or two, or three) that always accompanies a picture of the leading candidate of the party. Elite chocolate, the most well-known chocolate company in Israel, decided to piggy back off of political ad campaigns for some PR for themselves. Strewn among ads for Labor and Likud, are the ads for the domestic beast fighting for a sweeter future.

Elite chocolate’s cow logo is plastered on posters and bumper stickers. Many mornings I find myself face-to-face with people giving out mini bars of chocolate, a bumper sticker and a pamphlet. At first I thought it was the same 1 line motto, but now I realize that I have 3 different ones, at least. I feel like a little kid who is trying to “collect them all.”

The first (and in my opinion best) ad is a parody of the Likud’s party poster of a picture of Benjamin Netanyahu and the words עם חזק מול חמם -A Strong Nation Against Hamas. A few days later Elite came out with עם חזק, אוכל מתוק - A Strong Nation; Sweet Food. Since then I have seen המנהיגה היחידה עם קוביות בבטן - The Single Leader with Chocolate in his Stomach and לעתיד מתוק יותר- For a Sweeter Future.

While some might be upset that Elite chocolate’s party will not be on the ballot come election day, sometimes tells me this is not the last we have seen of them.
