Venture Capitalism? Leora?
The day has finally come....I HAVE A JOB! You are now reading the blog of a personal assistant to a venture capitalist of Benchmark Capital. The company is the Israeli branch of the American Benchmark Capital that is based in Silicon Valley. The Israeli office is based in it's own mini Silicon Valley, otherwise known as Herzeliya Pituach. Luckily for me, there is a bus that goes directly from my apartment to the office.
I don't think anyone would have predicted that after 4 years of studying Middle Eastern History and 2 years of working for a non-profit I would work for a venture capital firm. As random as this may be, I am thrilled with the opportunity. As much as I enjoyed working for the Anti-Defamation League and as much as I learned there, I told myself that when I came to Israel I wanted to try something different and new. I don't think you can find something more different than a world that is based on money and technology.
When I went through the first interview I told my employer that I know NOTHING about large sums a money. I did tell him, however, that I am extremely organized and had years of unofficial experience organizing the lives of my friends.
Some time between the interview, the reference calls and the week that he was away in LA, he decided that he wanted to hire me. We met yesterday and he gave me the news. During all of this time I did everything I could not too get my hopes up too high or want the job too much, but when he told me that I had the job yesterday I was simply in shock. Now I am not only an Israeli citizen, but an Israeli citizen who is employed.
How good it feels.

Oh Leora! Yay for you! I am so happy that you are adjusting so well. The world of money is not so bad....as long as you are getting your piece! I love you and miss you!!!

As somebody whose life was made only more chaotic, not more organized, by your presence, I am particularly impressed and proud. And, with your keen ability to not wind up in New Hampshire, the driving thing should go just fine. Add me to the list of kvelling Americans! Miss you tons, Lauren
