A Day in the Life of a Tel Aviv Woman

As fun as mass emails can be, I decided to start this blog with the hopes of writing on a more regular basis. I welcome your comments so feel free to write often.

Introducing Edden Aviv Wine

It is hard to believe that less than 3 weeks ago my large stomach and I were going about our daily business- riding my bike to the train station, going to work and finding clothes that still fit. And then after my last day of work and a dinner of Asian noodles my water broke. A mere 10 hours later Edden was born to eager and exhausted parents.

Life as I knew it changed instantaneously. Now my days are filled with nursing, dirty diapers and the occasional nap for myself. My gym membership is frozen (yes, Ariel made me freeze it for the entire 6 weeks that I am not allowed to work out, even though I tried to convince him that 4 was enough), my bicycle is collecting dust and I am rediscovering Tel Aviv by foot (with baby in sling of course).

As for Edden's name…. note the unique spelling with 2 D's. While everyone had a suggestion of what we should name our baby girl, we were set on Edden for awhile. Edden, עדן, appears in the bible right at the beginning in Garden of Eden. The 3 letter root is the same root for the word מעדן, meaning delicacy and עדין, something that is fine, delicate and sensitive. Any way you spin it, we like the name Edden, but the only problem we ran into was how people may pronounce it in the US. Whereas Eden (pronounced Ee-den) is certainly a known word and name, our daughter's name has a soft E in the beginning. When my sister-in-law recommended that we add another D to help clear up any confusion, we couldn't have agreed more. And so Edden will grow up with a slightly different spelling to her name, that I hope she finds fun and unique. Speaking from someone with an even less common name in America, I think she will do just fine.

So our adventure continues. Every day is something new- whether it is going out by myself with Edden for the first time, nursing in a coffee shop or figuring out new songs to sing to calm her down, mother and daughter are doing great.
