A Day in the Life of a Tel Aviv Woman

As fun as mass emails can be, I decided to start this blog with the hopes of writing on a more regular basis. I welcome your comments so feel free to write often.

2 Weeks and counting: Are You Excited?

Two weeks from today I will be standing under the chuppah (wedding canopy). It is hard to believe, to digest, and to comprehend. I knew that theoretically I would be married one day but I never actualized that day ever coming. And now it is almost here and everyone reminds me of it.

Everyone seems to remember the fact that I am about to get hitched with questions such as:
“So, are you ready for the big day?”
“Are you nervous?”
“How ya holding up?”
“Do you have everything set?”
“Just X number of days left.”

This rapid fire of constant questions would make anyone nervous, even if she weren’t getting married, but it is nice to see so many people excited for me and for the wedding.

In these final days, Ariel and I are finishing up last minute items including marriage counseling classes. One of the lovely joys of getting married through the Rabanute is that the couple is obligated to take a group class on living as a married couple. The class was surprisingly painless except for the lack of AC and extreme heat. This short religious guy, who is a marriage consultant by day and a volunteer for the Rabanute at night, gave a 35 minute talk on how each sex should respect the other what the Jewish laws say about sex and a woman’s menstrual cycle. As he put it “2 weeks of fun, 2 weeks break.” In Hebrew it sounds better: “שבועיים כיף כף, שביעיים פסק זמן.”

Now all is left is to choose the color of the napkins and wait for everyone to come…well, almost.

After 9 months of being engaged I never thought the day would come…but now it is almost here. For those of you coming to the wedding, wear comfortable shoes because you will be dancing all night long!

P.S. - After 2 years in Israel, 2 apartments, 2 jobs (don’t forget I was a waitress for 3 weeks) and 2 weeks left until the wedding, I have written 100 blog entries!
